The Next Great Author

Overheard

A: . . . and this is fabulous.

B: Wow, "fabulous," that's not a word I hear very often.

A: Yes, I was an English major in college, and I like to use big words.

Dear Silly, Pretentious English Major:

Even though I did not overhear the context of your conversation, and even though you did not ask me, I have two pieces of advice for you.

First, do not proudly proclaim that an eight-letter word is a big word.

Second, there is no need to brag that you were an English major. This is not something that impresses (NOTE: Even this nine-letter word is not big) most people. I should know - I was a speech major.

Fondly,
Sam

Is being a speech major something to brag about?

Education: English Major at Pacific University
Jobs Qualified For: School Teacher at Banks Elementary.

Not that I should talk, Theatre Majors aren't exactly in high demand either, but at least theatre Majors don't claim to be smart, or claim to know how to spell Elementary. Although I am 60% sure that is how one spells it, the mere fact that I am a little uncertian goes to show that English Majors will probably win Spelling Bee's, but I always win Crainium. Its because I'm psychic.

Nice work, Sam. I hear they print a map to a soup kitchen on the back of the diploma. Haha...actually, I know lots of English majors and they're all really nice. Go figure!
