No Wagons

A conversation with Jonas, who is in first grade:

JONAS: Dad, did you ever skip a grade?

FONDLYSAM: No. Why do you ask?

J: I want to skip third grade.

FS: Oh - why is that?

J: Because I don't want to make the wagon.

(NOTE: In third grade, students study The Oregon Trail, and make a model of a wagon that ventured on the trail.)

FS: Well, Nick did it, right?

J: Yeah, but he already said that I couldn't use his wagon.

Talk about planning ahead!

At my old school during Oregon Trail time we also had "pow wows" so as not to leave out the Native Americans. It made me want to skip the third grade, too!

Hahahaaaa...with wit like that, he should skip a grade or two. When my class did the mock Oregon trail thing, I died somewhere in Wyoming. Figures.

Hehe, that's awesome! We never studied the "Oregon Trail", but that's because Montana is full of all the people that didn't make it all the way or got lost on their way to Oregon.

Note to Jonas from Nana:

Hey, Jonas,
Good for you to already be thinking about the Oregon Trail assignment! Here's an idea - - -
you could tell your teacher that you'd rather make a quilt, as that was a very prized possession of the pioneers.
Always looking out for you, love, Nana :+)
