Even Better Than A Two-Dollar Shirt

This past weekend, my students competed in two tournaments at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. We entered three teams in the debate tournament on Friday and Saturday. They did quite will, with two teams winning three of their six debates and the other team winning two. This is impressive because the competition at this tournament was the best we've seen all year. Solid teams from around the country went to Salem. Our debaters competed with them and did great. Two of the debate teams will attend the national debate tournament at Oregon State University, which will probably be a bit easier - it will be bigger, so more of the riff-raff teams (a term I use lovingly and with the utmost respect) will attend.

On Sunday, we had the individual events qualifier for the national tournament in Florida. Since I have failed at giving away the position of district chair (aka administrative assistant), I ran the event. I had good help, and we banged out this this tournament in a day. Before the tournament we had six students already qualified in eight events. By Sunday night, we had a total of 10 students qualified in 17 events (or something close to 17).

To celebrate their success, I bought a suit. I went shopping with a friend to Nordstrom Rack, and found my new suit on the clearance rack (75% off the rack price) for $75. Like the two-dollar shirt, it was a deal I couldn't pass. Unlike the two-dollar shirt, it isn't pink and yellow.

I think you bought a suit because you just can't stand other people getting good deals at the Rack. I know it's real easy to get envious of my nice suit (which I am calling my lucky suit from now on, becuase it isn't everyday that I win my version of "canned Extemp POI")
but remember: There is no end in a process... PS If you are gonna try to throw the Seagull in my face, I had to chant "remember the Seagull" the entire weekend... and so I deserve to be a little narcissistic.
