In Justice

While waiting for a pizza order at Costco today, a man and I were chatting and laughing at how there were two customers with order number 302 and two more people with order number 306 - and how this was funny and confusing. His wife approached holding an iced coffee beverage, and the following conversation occurred.

WOMAN: Honey, will you hold my drink? I need to go to the bathroom.

MAN: No. As soon as this pizza comes out, we're going home.

W: But, I need to go - I'll be quick--

M: NO - We're going home - HOME!

The woman walks toward a table to wait, and the man gives me a look that communicates "Can you believe her?"

My pizza came up (one of the number 302's) , and I took it to the table where my family was sitting.

- - - - - - - - - -

I was absolutely shocked at how he treated her - shocked to the point of being dumbfounded. Looking back, I wish I would've said something. I wish I would've called him out on being such a jerk.

But mostly, I wish that man would love and respect his wife.

Growing up in Utah, I thought that it was just a cultural thing and that outside of its border men respected women. And I left Utah, and realized there are jerks everywhere and for every reason.

Oddly, while I had not gone into college feeling like much a feminist, I find myself laying down some feminist smack down on almost a daily basis. I contribute this new awareness to Ash and Jess. The legacy lives on.

Wow...People are so douchey. It always makes me sad to see people being mean...And then it makes me happy to know there are cool guys like you out there who would never treat their wives like that! And it blows my mind that people really act like that to each other.

What an Ass...I can't believe that he would talk to her in front of someone else like that! I know a lot of people treat each other like crap in PRIVATE...but he's just putting his jerky-ness right out there. You should have said something like, "Wow, hope she doesn't get a bladder infection...or you know, some self-respect."

sounds like a douche to me. i think something to remember tiff is that females also can contribute to the douchyness of a relationship. and that feminism has actually nothing to do with this situation. sometimes a person is just a dick, the fact that this person may have one, has nothing to do with it.

sam, dave said you'd call me yet i sit and wait patiently for your call. what gives?! when i was a recruit my phone didnt stop ringing. now that you've got me, i never hear from you~!!! are you cheating on me!!!!!??????????
