Facebook Excitement

WORD OF THE DAY, VOL. 4

Today's word is nonplussed. This is a great word that we need to incorporate into our daily usage. Please join me in my campaign of identifying the nonplussedness of the world.

Definition: A state of perplexity, confusion, or bewilderment.

For an example, we have help from The New York Times (01/06/06).

At George Washington University, the campus security force got wind of a party by monitoring Facebook.com. The officers waited till the shindig was in full swing, then shut it down on discovering under-age drinking.

Students decided to fight back. Their weapon of choice? Facebook, of course.

Once again they used the site, which is visited by more than 80 percent of the student body, to chat up a beer blast. But this time, when the campus police showed up, they found 40 students and a table of cake and cookies, all decorated with the word "beer." Students posted photographs of the party on Facebook, including a portrait of one nonplussed officer.

Enjoy your new usage of this fabulous term!

Nonplussed. It's a good word. I often feel that way.

My experience while writing my paper in the all-night study lounge:
"Jess was very nonplusseed when the dude sitting at the computer next to her started singing Dave Matthews like he was in the shower...did he not see she was sitting right next to him?"
