Town of Fredonia is off to races after board approves hobby car track
(From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, January 14, 2006)
The first hobby car racetrack in southeastern Wisconsin will open on Memorial Day weekend with events called the "Big Cheese Championships," the track's owner said Friday.
The banked, clay oval track will have about a 100-foot circumference. At each race, 8 to 10 small sprint cars - which cost an average of about $1,150 and are radio-controlled and gasoline-powered - will scoot around the track for about five minutes. The cars make a buzzing noise like a swarm of bees and can reach speeds of 60 mph.
