Read And Learn

THE SHORT VERSION: When you remove masking tape from your wallet, it leaves a mark. The lesson here is that you should not put masking tape on your wallet - even for a short time.

THE LONG VERSION: Trying to be a safe driver, I pulled into a parking lot to answer a call on my (huge) cell phone. A friend called me and gave me several phone numbers where I could call him back. Wanting to write these numbers on something, I chose the first thing I could find in my car - masking tape. (I don't know why a roll of masking tape is in my glove compartment.) When I got home, I ripped off the piece of tape containing the phone numbers. (I don't know why I didn't bring the whole roll of tape into the house.) Not wanting to lose the piece of tape, I decided to stick it on the outside of my brown, leather wallet. Later, I made the calls I needed to make and stored the phone numbers in my phone. I removed the piece of tape from my wallet. As the tape came up, it removed some of the brown coloring from the wallet, leaving some "tape tracks" on the outside of the wallet. In my shock and dismay, I wondered if the brown coloring came off because the tape was on the wallet for several hours, or if the brown coloring would come off even if the tape was only on it for several seconds. In an attempt to answer this existential conundrum (see what I did there, Jess?), I ripped off a piece of tape, put it on my wallet, and quickly removed it. Sure enough, some of the brown coloring came off with the tape. After doing this same exercise several times, I concluded that tape removes color from my wallet, even if the tape is on the wallet for a few seconds.

(NOTE: If you actually read the whole long version, I'm kinda surprised and a little sorry.)

Last year I hung posters and organized cords with electrical tape. Months later when I went to remove the tape, it left a black goo on everything and the more I tried to clear it the worse it became.

Dude, that sucks...I blame leather more than tape, though.

Reason # 42 why masking tape sucks.

If it's broke duct it, if you can't duct it, chuck it.

Dear Sam-

As the resident Biologist of your blog readership I would like to officially welcome you to the scientific community. To become a full-fledged member all you need to do is grow your hair long and complain about those f***ers at the Department refuse to give grants for the really important issues, like the leather-marring abilities of tape.
