Today, as I was walking through our university's student center building, I saw a woman who directs one of the summer conferences that visits campus. I will call her Franki. I have not seen her since summer of 2005 when her high-maintenance group was on campus. This past summer, I was not slaving away in that job during their conference, so I did not see her.
Back to today: I'm walking with a friend, who I will call Mark, chatting, when Mark notices that I seem highly distracted from my task of purchasing an afternoon muffin. (It was a good day for a muffin.) Franki glanced right at me without any sign of recognition, and went back to her meeting (with three other people, probably complaining about fees). I didn't stop to say hello because I didn't want an hour of my life to disappear while she talked. As I continued to walk, I realized that my hair saved me. Franki hasn't seen me since my hair got long, and the mousse today wasn't doing its job, so there was a definite poof going on in the front. Hooray for low-quality mousse.
For fear of her recognizing and catching up to me, I didn't stop at the coffee shop, and didn't get my muffin. But, I'm OK with that.

You didn't go back for your BIRTHDAY muffin? There was even going to be a candle and everything in it.

NICE! People don't always recognize me with short hair so I sort of can relate. Good deal, way to dodge a bullet!

What the hell was Franki doing on campus? You know, she was always nice to me. She gave me popsicles.

Doesn't she have to give public notice before she comes? You know, National Guard, attack dogs, other safety features...
