Eye Spy

Setting-
Pacific U vision center

Cast of Characters-
FS = Fondly,Sam
25yoi = 25-year-old intern who examined my eyes
(I'm guessing at her age)

- - - - - - - - - -

25yoi: So, you've had a couple birthdays since your last exam.

FS: Yeah, I guess.

25yoi: Well, that's good. It's good to have birthdays.

FS: Oh, it's not that big of a deal to me.

25yoi: No, I mean - it's GOOD to have more birthdays-

FS: -OK?-

25yoi: (Whispers.) - cuz if you don't have birthdays, then kkkkkkkk.
("Kkkkkkkk" was a throaty noise accompanied by a gesture of one finger moving slowly across her throat.)

FS: You mean, that you wouldn't be alive?

25yoi: Yes. That's why it's good to have birthdays.

- - - - - - - - - -

25yoi: So, we need to have that talk about the "b-word."

FS: What's that?

25yoi: It's the "b-word."

FS: I don't understand what you mean.

25yoi: (Again she whispers.) The "b-word."

FS: I hear what you're saying, but I can't think of a b-word that is appropriate for this context.

25yoi: (She pauses and stares at me. Still whispering.) Bi-focals.

FS: Oh. We can talk about bi-focals.

25yoi: Some people don't like to hear the word.

FS: I'm fine with it.

- - - - - - - - - -

I don't need bi-focals. Yet. I think that 25yoi was a little disappointed.

I tell you, those optometry kids are weird...The last time I went in they got SO excited because they could see the scar in my eye from my uncrossing surgery...He had to call in his supervisor to look at it. His supervisor was wearing a bolo-tie. I am not making this up.

Wow. That's awkward. You know, the "A-word."

Speaking of which, I'm back. We need to do lunch. I have a piece of Chinese goodness for you. The kind that you will need to match. Interested? Indeed.

I don't care what Jim says, that is not the real Ben Franklin, I'm 99% sure.

Are you near-sighted or far sighted? BOTH, that's why I invented the bi-focals! AAAAAAARRRRRHHHH!
