Car Rental Secret

In planning for the trip to Hawaii, I've uncovered a secret about the travel industry, and am happy to share it with the loyal Fondly, Sam readership.

When looking to rent a vehicle, about two weeks before your arrival date, I advise you to check car rental websites and click on a link that says something to the effect of "last minute specials" to see if you can find something better than the vehicle that you already reserved. A list of cities will appear with a description of the specials. I'm guessing that these are large groups of vehicle types that haven't been reserved for the next couple of weeks. You can get some great deals.

EXAMPLE #1
For the first part of out trip, Traci and I are flying into Honolulu, hanging out with Josh Masagatizzle for a couple of days. The last minute special featured several vehicles, so I reserved a Jeep for the same price as a boring sedan.

EXAMPLE #2
For the second part of our trip, we will fly to Maui and spend five days there. The last minute special on a different car rental website got us a convertible, which only costs us an extra five dollars a day, compared to the boring sedan that I had reserved a while ago.

These deals are more exciting than finding great deals on clearance shirts!!

You should have reserved a stretch hummer that can hover over the water and allow you to drive between the islands. Congrats on the vehicular windfall! :-)

When my dad flew in for highschool graduation he rented a car. They wanted a boring four door sedan. When they got to the airport, the only thing they had left was a BMW SUV (They told my dad that the Bush twins had driven it while campaigning for their dad in 200). Instead of being happy about it, he whined to the rent-a-car place until they felt so sorry for the inconvenience, they gave him a free rental. Boo-freakin-hoo.

If you're comparing rental car shopping to shirt shopping...we're going to have to talk about this seriously during our next F2F meeting!!
