W Hearts Billy Bass

During an interview (reported by The Associated Press on May 8, 2006) with a German newspaper on Friday, a reporter asked President Bush to name his best and worst moments as president.

His worst was September 11, 2001. Bush said, "I would say the toughest moment of all was after the whole reality sunk in and I was trying to help the nation understand what was going on, and at the same time, be empathetic for those who had lost lives."

For his best moment, Bush said it was not easy to select one because he has had a lot of great ones. That is understandable, considering that he has traveled the world's most impressive cities, met with world leaders and entertained celebrities.

But, then he did choose his best moment. He said, "I would say the best moment was when I caught a 7 1/2-pound largemouth bass on my lake."

Well, I guess that's fair - at least he is somewhat balanced when talking about himself. When asked in a 2004 press conference to name his biggest mistake, Bush couldn't come up with any. So, in his mind, if the highlight of his mistake-free presidency is catching a fish, then so be it.

I'm so glad that President Bush is confident in his abilities. I should consider taking back all the mean things I said about him.

...

Ok, I thought about it.

He was asked that "biggest mistake" question during his 2000 presidential campaign and he replied "trading Sammy Sosa to the Cubs." Just so you know, Sosa was a great baseball player and Bush owned part of the Texas Rangers team that traded him to Chicago. Everyone sort of laughed because they expected him to say something political, but after thinking about it for a bit, they all pretty much agreed that that was a pretty stupid deal and worthy of the title "biggest mistake."
