That Stupid Duck
In a high school English class with crazy Mr. Whalen (who yelled at student that did not like Jane Eyre), we memorized the poem The Duck, by Ogden Nash. I still remember it -or at least I think that I do.
Behold the duck
It does not cluck
A cluck it lacks
It quacks
It is specially fond
Of a puddle or pond
When it dines or sups
It bottoms ups
The second stanza may not be correct. I remember having trouble with that bottoms ups part.
Why did we memorize this poem in high school? Why do I still remember it?

I can remember a lot of the St. Crispin's day speech from Henry the fifth for some odd reason too.

Out, Out, Brief candle. Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour apon the stage and then is heard no more.It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Thats all I remember of a famous shakespeare play. Well, I guess its a little better then a poem about a duck.

I still remember a song about cats that I learned at Halloween in kindergarten...
"Halloween cat, Halloween cat, why do you mew and meow like that? Neither I nor the moon like that tune, so scat! Halloween cat."
I would be happy to sing this at any time. I remember thinking it was a cool song but I'm not sure I understood all of the words yet.

And Mr. Whalen's eyebrows were at least 3 inches long... which was just a tad shorter than his nostril hair...
