No Cake
When an employee leaves my university, there are two ways to say good-bye.
1. If fired, the good-bye is in the form of an email message to the campus community from the employee's supervisor, stating that he/she is pursuing other professional interests.
2. If a person chooses to leave, there is a gathering on campus that usually involves mediocre cake and talking to people you usually don't see who want to take a break from work and eat bad cake.
At a non-educational workplace, apparently things are different. An outgoing chief executive at Nike (world headquarters in Beaverton, OR - about 10 miles from our house) received $579,649 from the company for home remodeling.
I will be checking Nike's employment website.

i just hope you appreciate living in the U.S. because you KNOW the nike employees in other countries ain't gettin' no $579,649 to cover the bills for the bad eyes and carpal tunnel syndrome they've spent their lives developing!

Yeah but Sam, when you chose to leave and ate bad cake, we were all there with you! I thought it was sortof touching, actually... especially when Paula danced. Teared up a little, there.
